Abby Bender Schmantze Theatre’s
The Goldilocks Zone: more is more

May 6-8 and 13-15, 2011. 8pm

This ninth evening-length premiere is a collaboration between Abby Bender (choreographer, stuff-maker, Gemini, step aerobics aficianado) and her friend and playwright Richard Harrington who has a very funny face. However, it is not a dance or a play. Like all pieces of Schmantze Theatre, The Goldilocks Zone: more is more is a show in which movement, text, video, music, surprising props and costumes all blend to create a world of engaging absurdity that can’t easily be described, but must be experienced. Marked by Bender’s penchant for over-the-top ensemble dance sequences with appropriate doses of humility, the show follows Abby and Richard on their arduous journey towards making the very show that is underway, a show that might just fail miserably. Is it a comedy? Is it a tragedy? You be the judge. Oh, and the cast of twelve dancers are actually quite a talented bunch. Abby and Richard? They’re hopeful…

Performed with gusto by Karesia Batan, Elizabeth Bougton Bates, Abby Bender, Althea Brugman Bender, Adam Boncz , Jonathan Ciccarelli, David Covington, Charles Gushue, Richard Harrington, Cristina Jesurun, Reshma Patel, Martha Pundsack, Melissa Rudder, Emily Skillings. With text by Abby Bender and Richard Harrington, Costumes and props by Abby Bender, Andy Dickerson, and Rebecca Sproul
