Kill Me Loudly: A Clown Noir
Wednedsay-Sunday, September 16-20, 2009 and Wednesday-Friday, September 23-25. 8pm at Triskelion Arts

A Fools ON Fire production
Starring Deanna Fleysher, Jeff Seal, Chris Manley and Chris Roberti.
Directed by Eric Davis.
Created by the company.
A show about temptation, betrayal and murder. Done by Clowns.

Do you long for the days of lonely office buildings, dead-end alleys, and glitzy clubs? So do we. And by the time we're through, you’ll leave longing for them all the more. Director Eric Davis (Red Bastard, Cirque du Soleil, Bouffon Glass Menajoree) wields his magic sword to create a world where there is not one, but two femme-fetales, neither of whom are women, and the main Dick doesn’t even have one. We break our hearts and bare our souls to give you the film noir you deserve. We try. We’re good at trying. And we fail. That's the best part of all.

Here is a clown noir. Very good intentions. Very bad clowns.

NEW modern CLASS! Click HERE for complete details!

For all the reasons to dance, the very first is simple...
dance = joy.

We would like to invite you to dance with us in an effort to center and reenergize our dance community.
These classes will resume in Septmeber, 2009, Saturdays 12-2 at Triskelion Arts Studio A

A community-based, donation-based, Modern Contemporary class taught by several different instructors. Intermediate-Advanced.

This class will be dedicated to rekindling the joy to move and be moved by new and old friends via a class atmosphere that is neither overcrowded, nor overpriced. In partnership with Triskelion Arts, the founders of this class aim to create an environment that is open, supportive, and responsive, one that is designed by its participants to challenge and inspire. Contributing teachers each possess a unique style and technique and play a vital role in our dance community. All have studied extensively and have fused the wisdom and skill of their training with invention of their own. Their voices are relevant, raw and fresh.

If you are interested in teaching a class, or in a particular investigation please let us know and we will incorporate it in the schedule.
...Or if you just want to dance your pants off and come see what’s in store, that's cool too!

Classes will be a suggested donation of $10- all proceeds to benefit Triskelion Arts.

Contact Kendra Portier at kportier@mac.com if you're interested in participating in this class, especially if you'd like to teach or host one of them. Please forward this info onto others and feel free to contact Kendra with any questions, suggestions, or general thoughts about the class.

BUJINKAN BUDO TAIJUTSU

Developed by the legendary ninja and samurai of feudal Japan, Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu comprises ancient Japanese kobudo martial arts. These arts thrive under the direct guidance of Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, grandmaster of nine distinct martial traditions including Togakure Ryu Ninpo. Hatsumi Sensei is the last and only true ninja soke (grandmaster). The term "ninpo" refers to the group of martial traditions and philosophy that were utilized to combat the extreme violence that plagued Japan during the Sengoku ("Warring States") Era and directly afterwards. Bujinkan unarmed and armed movement focus on the efficient use of the entire body ("taijutsu") to achieve maximum effectiveness. It is not a sport. Rather, training is centered on jissen gata combat fighting.

Training is lead by Shidoshi Orin Paliwoda. Membership will be selective.

Poi was an ancient Maori art used for dance, play, agility, and self-defense training. Today, poi has developed into a dynamic and complex art form that is often combined with fire. Here, poi is taught with an eye for movement as opposed to simply a series of static tricks to be mastered. Class includes warm-up and cool-down as well as plenty of opportunity for questions, improvisation, and experimentation. We will spin and move to a variety of music to encourage different styles and flow. We introduce and review basic fire safety methods, and the last class always includes the opportunity to light up (no fire will take place at Triskelion studios).
Poi 1
This class starts at the very beginning! We begin building a basic vocabulary and getting comfortable spinning, moving, and working with planes, stalls, and basic transitions..

Poi 2
Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of simple poi moves. We continue adding to our poi vocabulary, building transitions, and facilitating experimentation.

Poi 4
Students should understand the mechanics of poi movements, be able to pick up new tricks with relative ease, and feel comfortable spinning freeform. In this class we will be exploring more technical elements of poi moves (antispin, hyperloops, pendulums, polyrhythms) as well as refining our form and working on performance styles.

Freestyle Workshop
This class is an opportunity for students to work on their own personal poi practice in a dedicated and supported environment. Students are encouraged to use this time to develop routines, work through tricky spots, or just work up a sweat. Instruction will not be in the form of a specific curriculum; rather, I will be available to help with questions, ideas, and troubleshooting. This will be an open source workshop and sharing and exchanging ideas is encouraged. This is also an ideal opportunity to take advantage of the mirrored studio, which can be an invaluable tool. This is an Open Level class, however, you must have some basic knowledge of poi as there will be no breakdown of moves per se.

Enrollment:
Poi 1, 2, and 4 are $180 for the 10-week session. A payment of $90 via Google Checkout will confirm your enrollment (I will send you an invoice when you register). The remaining balance can be paid on the first day of class.
Freestyle Workshop is $16 for a single class. Class cards may be purchased at a reduced rate: 5 classes for $70 or 10 classes for $120.

"Claire Smith's poi teaching is nothing less than awesome. She's got a great knack for breaking down complicated moves so they're easily understandable, and she gets the sense of play that poi is all about. Her classes are a blast." -Nancy Connors

"Claire is an EXCELLENT poi teacher. I was trying to teach myself by video and through friends and wasn't getting very far, but once I started taking her classes, my skills took off. Claire has a really clear way of explaining what should be happening with each move and can see right away why a trick isn't working. She works well with students of all levels. The mirrored studio also helps self-immensely. Claire is considerate and fun and I always look forward to classes." --Crystal Thiele

Trisha McBride's unique style of Belly Dance is a blend of American Tribal Style, Cabaret, Indian, Flamenco, and an influence of her first love, Break Dancing. This blend of different dance forms has been collected, and refined for the past 13 years. Giving her a recipe for an alluring dance both exciting to watch, and learn. Trisha began her adventures in Belly Dancing in 1996. Starting out at Kismet dance studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. That same year she witnessed Carolena Nericcio, of Fat Chance Belly Dance on stage at the Utah Annual Belly Dancing Festival. Falling in love with American Tribal Style Belly Dance, she moved to San Francisco, California to study with Fat Chance, and Jill Parker of Ultra Gypsy. The combination of studying San Francisco's Tribal Belly Dance style, and Salt Lake's Cabaret style, Trisha developed a dynamic repertoire of dance movements and an ultimate addiction to belly dance. In 2002 she joined Azure (an ATS San Francisco Troupe). Then in 2004 the "wander " kicked in for this gypsy style dancer, as she found herself living, and teaching belly dance in New York City. Her teaching philosophy is "to be a good teacher, you must be a good student," as she seeks the best teachers to sharpen her skills. Taking workshops with Rachel Brice, and Dalia Carella. Trisha includes meditations, and yoga to her teaching. Performing is highlight for her, and taken very seriously as she finds it ritualistic and uplifting. Trisha has performed extensively at different venues all over New York. She has enjoyed exploring the rich culture that the New York Belly Dancing world has to offer. In the winter of 2006, she began studying the dumbek, with a world renowned virtuoso Raquy Danziger, and quickly developed "dumbek fever." Drumming is now a big part of Trisha's dance vocabulary, as she has found that studying Middle Eastern rhythm has improved her synchronicity with the timing of music to dance and dramatically enhanced her belly dance, and ziling skills.
