CLOWN WORKSHOP
with International Teacher Mick Barnfather
APRIL 4th (FRI) thru APRIL 8th (TUES)
9:30am-4pm (with hour lunch)
at Triskelion Arts Studio A.
This is am amazing chance to study intensley with one of the best clown and comedy teachers. Mick is able to draw out the funny in anyone in front of him, in a way you didn't even know possible. As he says, the workshop will be "very much looking to find what is uniquely funny about each person and how they can make that accessible to an audience. In my opinion when people have fun and play instinctively it is then that they start to play the fool, tell stories, joke and discover their creativity." It will incorporate elements of modern clown, (i.e. no big shoes, make up or squirting flowers) to draw the funny out of each and every person.

Beginner I Poi: coming again Tuesdays 7:00-8:30pm, May 6 – July 8 to Triskelion Arts Studio B.
Poi was an ancient Maori art used for dance, play, agility, and self-defense training. Today, poi has developed into a dynamic and complex art form that is often combined with fire. Over a series of 10 classes, we will practice basic poi moves and explore concepts such as planes, stalls, and transitions. Poi will be taught with an eye for movement as opposed to simply a series of static tricks to be mastered. Class will include warm-up and cool-down as well as plenty of opportunity for questions, improvisation, and experimentation. We will spin and move to a variety of music to encourage different styles and flow. We will also cover basic fire safety methods, and the last class, which will take place on a nearby Williamsburg rooftop, will include the opportunity to light up (no fire will take place at Triskelion studios).
The cost for the class is $160 for the 10-week session and includes a set of practice poi (sock poi) that I will provide for you to take home. Once your registration is confirmed by me, half the class fee ($80) is required to reserve your space in the class (which is limited to 8 people). The remaining balance can be paid on the first day of class.

"I just completed Claire's beginner poi class and am exhilarated after spinning fire for the first time. After the first class I never thought I'd be coordinated enough, but thanks to Claire's patience and natural teaching abilities I picked it up a lot quicker than I ever imagined. Claire breaks down each move into its basic components, and in the process makes what once seemed complex, simple. I can't wait until the next level course!"
~Dave Shor
"Claire teaches the art of poi spinning with incredible patience and understanding of her student's experience. She keeps the class size small in order to be able to give each student the individual attention necessary to reach his or her potential. She is able to explain technique, advise on practice strategies, and cover all safety information necessary to advance from sock spinning to fire. It is rare to find a teacher this dedicated to the success of her students."
~Amy Shapiro
Looking forward to spinning with everyone!

Trisha McBride's unique style of Belly Dance is a blend of American Tribal Style, Cabaret, Indian, Flamenco, and an influence of her first love, Break Dancing. This blend of different dance forms has been collected, and refined for the past 13 years. Giving her a recipe for an alluring dance both exciting to watch, and learn. Trisha began her adventures in Belly Dancing in 1996. Starting out at Kismet dance studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. That same year she witnessed Carolena Nericcio, of Fat Chance Belly Dance on stage at the Utah Annual Belly Dancing Festival. Falling in love with American Tribal Style Belly Dance, she moved to San Francisco, California to study with Fat Chance, and Jill Parker of Ultra Gypsy. The combination of studying San Francisco's Tribal Belly Dance style, and Salt Lake's Cabaret style, Trisha developed a dynamic repertoire of dance movements and an ultimate addiction to belly dance. In 2002 she joined Azure (an ATS San Francisco Troupe). Then in 2004 the "wander " kicked in for this gypsy style dancer, as she found herself living, and teaching belly dance in New York City. Her teaching philosophy is "to be a good teacher, you must be a good student," as she seeks the best teachers to sharpen her skills. Taking workshops with Rachel Brice, and Dalia Carella. Trisha includes meditations, and yoga to her teaching. Performing is high light for her, andtaken very seriously as she finds it ritualistic, and uplifting. Trisha has performed extensively at different venues all over New York. She has enjoyed exploring the rich culture that the New York Belly Dancing world has to offer. In the winter of 2006, she began studying the dumbek, with a world renowned virtuoso Raquy Danziger, and quickly developed "dumbek fever." Drumming is now a big part of Trisha's dance vocabulary, as she has found that studying Middle Eastern rhythm has improved her synchronicity with the timing of music to dance and dramatically enhanced her belly dance, and ziling skills.
